Avoid Opioid Addiction, Choose Non-Drug Approaches to Pain Management
As opioid addiction continue to rise and take its toll on the lives of countless Americans, the White house recommends declaring the ongoing Opioid epidemic as a national public health emergency. Many experts believe that the inadequate drug-free approaches to pain management for acute and chronic lower back pain or neck pain and other muscoloskeletal conditions, is contributing to the growing number of people getting addicted to opioid and dying from overdose.
According to a research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, overdose deaths involving prescription opioids have quadrupled since 1999 and have claimed 183,000 lives from 1999-2015 in the US alone. The most common drugs that have caused prescription opioid overdose deaths are Hydrocodone (such as Vicodin®), Oxycodone (such as OxyContin®) and Hydrocodone (such as Vicodin®).
Chiropractic Care: Non-Drug Pain Management
Gregory Johnson DC, a leading Your Houston Chiropractor and founder of the Advanced Chiropractic Relief, recommends utilizing non-drug approach to pain management as primary option for pain relief before resorting to prescription medicines. Non-drug and non-surgical approaches to pain management include Chiropractic adjustments, Home Mirror Image Exercises, acupuncture and massage.
“When performed by certified and experienced professionals, these non-drug treatments can be effective at pain, even contribute to overall health and wellness. Only when these non-drug options fail to provide any pain relief should drug-based treatments be considered,” said Dr. Johnson, who has been providing Chiropractic care for 40 years and was recently named Doctor of the Year by the Texas Chiropractic Association.
Foundation for Chiropractic Progress Support White House Recommendations
